In 2009 a new state-of-the-art building replaced the old Willard Elementary School. The new school integrates new technologies, environmentally conscious architectural
materials and particular consideration for the light and acoustical comfort of the occupants. The project complies with criteria established by the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) in Massachusetts.

Acentech consulted on architectural acoustics, community noise impact, and design
of the audiovisual systems. We established acoustical goals and criteria, and provided recommendations for room acoustics, sound isolation and mechanical systems noise control toward meeting these goals. For community noise, Acentech performed a survey of the existing environmental noise conditions at the site, and subsequently worked with the mechanical and architectural teams to provide noise control measures so that the new building systems do not adversely impact the community soundscape.

We designed the audiovisual system for the 250-seat auditorium to operate in two modes: No Operator Required and Full Mixing Control. In the operator-free mode, a simple touch panel allows educators to turn on the audiovisual system, select the source for the video projector, and lower the projection screen into position. Volume controls are also accessible from this panel. This is the default mode of operation. Anyone with basic training can operate the audiovisual system for presentations, lectures, or other similar events. In the full control mode, a 24-channel digital mixing console can be connected to the system to allow staff to produce more technically complex shows.
