Rooftop Cupola Lightwell

A rooftop cupola can serve many purposes. At the Hilton Bialek Habitat Garden Classroom located on the grounds of Carmel Middle School, the cupola balances daylight within the building, provides for natural ventilation, contains the HVAC equipment, and collects rainwater for irrigating the living roof and surrounding gardens. The cupola breaks up the volume on the exterior, and ceiling plane on the interior, creating a more dynamic classroom environment.
