Through lighting lab experiments and extensive modeling studies, the design team incorporated windows, skylights, clerestories, solar tubes, and light shelves throughout Clackamas High School that provide daylight and views to 90% of occupied spaces. This design strategy decreases the amount of artificial lighting required to illuminate interior spaces, decreasing the heat load and energy costs caused by electrical lights. The significant daylighting at the school has reduced energy usage to 44% below that of conventional buildings.

Additional Info:

The school is organized in building bars along an east-west axis for optimum natural lighting and ventilation, and the material palette follows principles of environmental sensitivity, simplicity and efficiency.
