In December of 2007 the Nehalem River flooded the town of Vernonia, Oregon, inundating its three schools. Built on a site above the flood zone, the new school will combine all 750 students in grades K-12 into a single building. The design reflects the regional character and the heritage of Vernonia, a small town in the timber country of Western Oregon. Design features include a wood roof structure, wood siding, and large areas of glass that provide abundant natural light and views of the forests. The new facility is designed to achieve LEED Platinum. | k-12 school: Vernonia K-12 School | Vernonia, Oregon![]() ![]() ![]() Photos: All images by BOORA Architects |
