Winging it

BOORA'S expansion of Mabel Rush Elementary strengthens the school’s existing architectural vocabulary while enlivening the learning environment. The butterfly roofs over the new high bay library, entry, and cafeteria/commons amplify the repeating gable roof forms of the original building, and the exposed and unadorned structure echoes the modernist style of the existing architecture. The new double-height entry canopy, which replaced an unattractive porte cochère, gives the building a more pronounced and identifiable entrance.
