Greene and Wicks Expansion

The $30 million redevelopment of South Park High School restores the facility while creating state-of-the-art learning spaces. Renovations include roof and coping repairs, restoration of main entrance door, and classroom and auditorium improvements. A gymnasium addition with lobby, locker rooms, support spaces, and two classrooms features a bypass corridor with large expanses of glass that draw light into the interior. An exterior materials palette of cast stone, brick, and vertically mullioned curtainwall harmonizes with the historic building’s grand legacy. Sustainable goals are achieved through the complete restoration and reuse of the majority of the existing building—the building will be prolonged for future generations. Energy savings will be substantial when the windows are replaced with insulated, new windows with low E glass. A majority of the glass facades for the new addition are on the north elevation which will minimize heat gain. Daylight will infuse the addition, locker rooms, lobbies and the pool, where long-covered arch top windows will be opened. Daylight will likewise fill the classrooms after the upper half of the windows are opened.
