Betty Fairfax is designed to divide the large student population into smaller populations, each with their own distinct identity. The entire campus is connected by a meandering path, which is designed to resemble a neighborhood street. Each school has its own address and “storefront” presence, and there are numerous informal gathering and social spaces along the street. Major plazas are found at each end of the path: Performing Arts at the South and PE/Athletics at the North. Additional Info: Desert flowers in springtime, spread beneath the backdrop of rugged mountains, provided inspiration for the bold forms, materials and color palette. Fresh air, daylight and expansive views are available throughout the school. Daylight in all core classroom areas is enhanced through the building’s orientation and shape, while minimizing thermal heat gain.
