The District sought a design that would reflect the community’s strong Latino culture and provide a hub for community events. As a result, the design took the strong influences of traditional Mexican-style architecture. Plazas, courtyards, scale, color, light, and strong geometric forms became central to the school’s design. The school was planned around a central plaza and amphitheater. Vibrant colors were used to reflect the festive Latino culture. Strong geometric forms helped to define space and convey a hierarchy. Light, shade, and shadow are used to accentuate the forms of the buildings and are taken to a playful extent with the design of a sundial. The school has become the centerpiece of civic pride for this community.
