Located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, the new Browning High School, Browning, Montana, will preserve the rich history of the Blackfeet Indian tribe and provide exceptional learning opportunities for students in grades 9-12. The 800-student high school integrates Blackfeet Indian culture into every aspect of the design. Circular seating patterns in classrooms support the tribe's strong oral history tradition. At the main entrance, images of the Big Dipper and Pleiades constellations decorate the building. Browning High School was designed with many Native American cultural features, including the orientation of the main entrance facing the east, and a canopy resembling the shape of a tipi.

Additional Info:

Browning High School will be heated by a biomass boiler system, not unlike a traditional tipi. This system utilizes forest biomass which typically is piled up and burned as waste. The boiler is expected to burn 1,250 tons of locally-grown fuel each year, while saving the district approximately $48,600 annually.
