The design concept for this early childhood center was to create a comfortable space that helped young children transition from the home atmosphere to beginning their education. Combinations of materials were used to add warmth, remind children of home, and spur on their imagination. Color was used to define different areas and act as a wayfinding tools to help children navigate the facility. Traditional materials were used in a non-traditional way to encourage creativity and to interest children in learning.

Additional Info:

Interesting shapes, textures, colors, and differing materials were used to spark young children's interest and were achieved by both three dimensional spaces as well as designs within the building materials. Muted primary colors were chosen to inspire without over stimulating. Subtle material cues were used like a lighter wood finish for doors to children's spaces and a darker finish for adult spaces.
