iGrid![]() GMPA Architects, Inc.For the Los Angeles Unified School District design competition, GMPA created a modular design based upon a grid system. The concept, called iGrid, delivers an intelligent, information based solution that allows great flexibility and adaptation to multiple sites. The basic scheme creates a central courtyard of green space which becomes the center of the campus. Despite its playful, sculptural form, the design is both deeply urban and sustainable. A distinctive, perforated metal panel system creates a high-tech aesthetic and also brings filtered daylight inside. Yellow "light chimneys" add a sense of liveliness, and layered solar panels cover the roof. | : Los Angeles Unified School District | Los Angeles, CA![]() ![]() ![]() Photos: Images by GMPA Architects, Inc. |
