Hoover Middle School modernization project is a part of San Francisco Unified School Districts accessibility upgrades program. The school was constructed in the 1950’s on an abandoned quarry. The school site presented several significant challenges:
· Provide equivalent access to all students regardless of their physical capabilities from the sidewalk to the main building entrance 27-feet above.
· Improve the 'curb appeal' of the school.
· Maintain the school’s wood paneled auditorium that provides performance space for nearly 20 individual music programs.
The proposed solution solves the problem of access, the visual appearance of school’s entry and maintains the quality of the auditorium.
