Blach & Egan Gyms Insulating Panel

The City of Los Altos and Los Altos School District teamed up to construct gymnasiums at each of the two Los Altos middle schools. A prefabricated panel and glazing system brings indirect natural light and ventilation into the buildings on all four sides, with glazing orientation adjusted to solar orientation. On the interior the panel is a sandwich of custom perforated plywood, speaker cloth, and insulation. The panel provides both temperature insulation and acoustical insulation, dampening echoes in the gyms. Vertical windows contain operating sashes.
