Oak Elementary School Learning Patios

The Oak elementary School modernization created a high performance campus at this Los Altos, California school. The original finger plan campus layout had led to good daylighting but largely wasted space between the classroom wings. As part of the modernization we reorganized grade level room assignments so that the four classrooms for each grade level are grouped two on each side of the open area instead of along the classroom bar. We then added additional double doors and created a new shared outdoor patio area where activities involving each grade level can be held. These outdoor patios also allow each classroom its own adjacent area for gardening or other small group activities.
