Great Seneca Creek is a new 82,500 sf elementary school for 740 students in grades Pre-K through 5 that serves as the pilot Green School project for the school district. In addition to saving over 30% energy and over 40% water consumption, the school celebrates the water cycle by teaching the students and staff about not just the built environment´s impact on the ecosystem, but also an individual person´s impact. The site outfalls to a wetland and the Seneca Creek, providing a constant reminder of the student´s connection with the natural environment. This school is the county´s first LEED Certified school, earning LEED Gold. Additional Info: Great Seneca Creek was the first public school in Maryland to be registered with the U.S. Green Building Councilīs (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and is the first public school in Maryland to be nationally certified by USGBC.
