When a school’s mission is centered on a specific theme, sometimes it’s ‘elementary’ to bring that mission to life in more than just a building. At Belmont Runyon Elementary School – a pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade School of Visual and Performing Arts, Science and Technology – the entire site incorporates musical, artistic and scientific elements. Students enter the grounds along a piano walk; explore the solar system in the main entrance pavilion; take a trip down a movie reel path to play on tennis courts reminiscent of a director’s clapper slate; and climb on playground equipment resting in the bell of a saxophone or in an artist’s palette. All these elements reinforce Belmont Runyon's fundamental mission and make the site more organized, interesting and visually appealing.
