The Shawnee Early Childhood Center houses 22 classrooms, a kitchen, music room, physical education center, dining space with stage and an interactive courtyard. The classrooms in the school are organized in clusters of four to five learning spaces surrounding themed common areas. The themed common areas include the enchanted forest, Wild West, zoo, creation station, forest animals and pond.

Integrated throughout the building is a train track that serves as a walking guide to the exuberant pre-K three- and four-year olds at the center. The train track travels through the five themed areas. It also pays homage to the history of the railroad in the community.

The 54,810 SF school was completed in spring 2008.
