Floor Mural![]() Lionakis916.558.1900 Sacramento, CA 95811 The interior atrium focuses on the unique environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin using finishes, patterns and sculpture to create an interior environment which mimics the beauty of its exterior model. The building also teaches through exposed structural and mechanical systems. By exposing building structure (steel, masonry, glass and concrete) and systems (ductwork and piping), the building teaches about the built environment and reduces overall material use. Additional Info: Alder Creek Middle School is a Collaboration for High Performance Schools (CHPS) demonstration school, and one of only two recipients in California of a $250,000 grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC). The middle school, located in the harsh winter climate of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, represents innovative sustainable design that meets the high performance schools criteria for indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency, site, water, and materials.
