The new Performing Arts Center complex for a 350 student Benedictine college preparatory school teaches environmental awareness while expanding the campus arts curriculum. Green Building principles, sensitivity to the prevailing rural setting, defining a cohesive campus gateway and respecting the tenets of Benedictine principles guided the design solution. Environmental aspects include a 9,500 sq ft “green roof”, abundant natural daylighting, solar heat gain reduction, erosion control measures, and innovative, energy-conscious utilization of existing Redwood landscape.

Additional Info:

Program Outline: A green building solution that provides approximately 18,000 sf of new construction housed in three independent structures. A multi-use auditorium seats 400 for musical and dramatic performances while also permitting ‘flat-floor’ events with the seating system retracted. Two smaller buildings provide classrooms, practice and performance space for drama, choral, and orchestra curriculum. A central plaza, defined by the three structures provides for a campus ‘living room’, allowing for outdoor congregation, alternative learning, and defining the primary arrival space on campus.
