Booker T. Washington High School![]() view full profile The auditorium is located in the heart of this new 213,000 SF magnet school. An elevated platform flanked by light-producing pylons creates a stage-like setting for the entry. Interior concepts reflect the art deco style of the original school. Inside, the ornamental proscenium and the dramatic floating ceiling clouds produce an acoustically-correct treatment while providing a screen for the catwalk structure. Special attention given to sightlines and acoustics provide all 800 seats great stage viewing. Additional Info: This new 213,000 SF, 3 story building replaced the existing magnet school in north Tulsa. The design combines existing facilities with new construction to create a unique visionary high school campus, featuring over 100 classrooms/laboratories, a gymnasium, 800-seat auditorium, indoor swimming pool, cafeteria, media center, and administrative areas. Part of the concept for the high school was to create a gathering place that focuses on a central commons that serves as both a dining area for the food service functions as well as a pre-function space for the auditorium. Serving as the hub for all areas of the building, this commons area connects two distinct entry points of the school, simplifying student traffic flow and allowing a entry control for events taking place in the dining area, auditorium, swimming pool, gymnasium, or library.
