St Alcuin Montessori School- Galbraith Family Building

The new Upper School Media Center for St Alcuin Montessori School is approximately 2,000 square feet including an additional 600 square feet of support spaces consisting of a library workroom, audio-visual workroom, video production room and a small group room for focused student-teacher tutoring or private student projects. The new Media Center is located on the ground level of the new Galbraith Family Building and serves the school's 4th grade through 8th grade students. The Media Center is organized to support multiple learning activities including individual study, computer research, group study and group research projects including an area dedicated for traditional book stacks. The new space is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including wireless internet through the school; indoors and outdoors. Transparency and daylighting is introduced through large windows to the north overlooking the campus' new athletic fields. Just outside the north doors includes a paved plaza area for students to enjoy studies outside the media center on a nice fall or spring day. Artistic features located in the Media Center are designed in such a way to represent the night sky with openings in the wall to the west representing an abstract interpretation of the Ursa Major constellation while the installation of the overhead pendant lights adds creative inspiration, excitement and curiosity.
