Somerset County Vocational Technical School’s Performing Art Center includes an outdoor performance plaza, a landscaped lawn amphitheater for public performances, and a student plaza that helps link contrasting elements of the campus together with an impressive outdoor performance area. Through shape, form and articulation, the architecture of the new addition establishes a relationship between the school’s curriculum and exterior campus by encouraging classes to utilize the performance stage, canopy and backdrop in their lessons. Additional Info: The Performing Arts Program has enhanced the fabric of the cultural landscape within Somerset County. A host to a variety of school-based musical, dance and theater performances, the Performing Arts Center also presents concerts by local orchestras and ensemble performances. Furthermore, the facility has enabled the school to give back to the community it serves by hosting technology based meetings, receptions, and even benefit concerts for local non-profit organizations.
