Four communities represented by a single building became a challenge when giving identity for each cultural group. The main concern was to be respectful of all the cultures at the same time, giving an especial space for each one of them that it can be seen as their own.

Additional Info:

The George Gardner Performing Arts Center represents the achievement of more than 30 years of effort by the community of Holbrook, a community created by a mix of four cultures Anglo, Hispanic, Hopi and Navajo. An example of such space was the main lobby, circular with a conical wood ceiling which represents the Hogan, a Native American sacred space, but at the same time becomes a point of interest where the application of color embraces Hispanic heritage found in different areas around Holbrook. A petrified tree stone incrusted in the center lobby floor acknowledges the area’s Petrified Forest.
