Reading Tree House![]() Spaces, Design & ArchitectureSDA redesigned an existing elementary gym, creating a new early child center with activity areas for reading, art, and study. Half the gym was retained as an indoor playground. A safe room was added adjacent to the building as well as a secure playground. The "reading tree house" is a highlight of the project. Additional Info: We (SDA) have worked on a few library/media centers for elementary schools. In each project we try and provide something unusual yet make the space interesting. Often times, with elementary schools, you see trees, branches, leaves, etc., as visual aids to help teach students something or convey a message. By taking that idea and taking it a step further, the design team came up with a "Reading Tree" – and by making a tree house, creating an exciting and special place for kids to have some quiet time and engage them in learning like their typical classrooms may not always be able to provide. The feedback we've had from the school so far is the kids love the space.
