West Adams Preparatory High School is a contemporary minimalist design with an exterior of varied textures in plaster, cementitious panels and metal. The campus design makes efficient use of the compact site utilizing multi-story buildings. Walkways are on two levels, the parking structure is subterranean and the playing fields provide for multiple uses with overlapping footprints.

Economical and lightweight pre-engineered metal buildings were used for the two large gymnasium structures that flank the Olympic size swimming pool. Large stairs to the library and near the dining room double as bleachers and lunchtime seating.

The classrooms feature exposed color concrete floors, indirect lighting, and water source heat pump heating and cooling. Nearly all of the classrooms are along open air single loaded corridors that provide natural light and cross ventilation.

The school operates with six learning academies devoted to subjects including the "School of Business Enterprise", "Media, Film, and Art", and "IDEA - Invention, Design, Engineering and Architecture". To support these programs, the school includes facilities such as a full soundstage production studio and a student operated cafe.
