The school's facility and site provide a "living" educational experience for magnet program students in environmental planning. Students are made aware of the school's green features, including: a small building footprint; a geothermal heating and cooling system; preservation of the site's woodlands and wetlands, and a relocated amphibious pond, through signage and educational prompts. A current-producing wind turbine is used for teaching experiments in magnet classrooms, where students can monitor the turbine's generation of energy.
