The 2,000-seat auditorium with balcony seating is a multi-use instructional facility. The major components include a modified orchestra pit, full motorized fly-loft, rigging systems and sound reinforcement. The exterior plaza becomes an outdoor extension of the indoor "plaza/lobby." Upon entering, the lobby's curved wall creates a dynamic and inviting gesture. Tension between the auditorium's curved brick wall and the orthogonal planes defines a space with urban character in its proportions, materials and streetscape.

The Jerry Durant Auditorium fills the School District’s growing educational need for the Performing Arts, as well as to independently serve the community by supporting different performance venues such as theater, music and dance. The auditorium is located in the heart of the campus and serves as a catalyst for the artistic nurturing of both students and the surrounding community, conveying to every person who enters a sense of community and symbol of artistic and civic achievement.
