Gathering Place

Students gathering between classes can be a supervision nightmare. To buck this trend many schools attempt to eliminate spaces where students might gather informally. But students are going to gather… it’s what they do. The element pictured is one of several small-group instruction and student gathering areas intentionally designed within this high school. They are adjacent to the circulation and paired with glazed teacher offices so that supervision is implicit. They are ergonomically design and comfortably carpted to invite sitting and gathering.
