This unique culinary arts school design calls for an edible organic garden for students to grow vegetables and use them in their recipes edible living walls of plants growing up the sides of the building (also specially ed to be used in recipes prepared in the kitchen) a displacement ventilation system solar hot water heaters, and an Outdooor Cafe.

Construction is expected to begin in September 2009. We are working toward obtaining the minimum points required (32) for the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS), a California program recognizing school environments that are not only energy efficient, but also healthy, comfortable, well lit and containing the amenities needed for a quality education.
Our goals for this new campus addition is to encourage hands-on instruction, student interaction and turn the building itself into a living classroom.


Materials:
Green screen and planting material were designed for the Outdoor Café walls and as part of the living wall on the west elevation. Plant material ion will be herb or some type of culinary appropriate vegetation. Silestone countertops Low-VOC paints and sealants Rapidly renewable materials such as linoleum flooring and cotton building insulation. Mechanically sensored operable windows (windows are tied into mechanical system that will automatically close or open based on thermostat settings windows will automatically close when the air conditioning goes on)
